GRANTS given to charities and organisations by the council are set to be reviewed.
A voluntary sector task group, expected to last for around eight months, has been formed to look into the issue, which was last investigated by the Redditch Borough Council overview and scrutiny committee in 2009.
Coun Pat Witherspoon, who proposed the review and is set to chair the group, said in a report she did not wish to duplicate the work done four years ago but there had been ‘many changes at both the local and national level’ since then.
“There remains room to adapt and improve the support that the council and relevant partner organisations provide to voluntary and community sector organisations,” she added.
“A review would help to ensure that the council’s process remains transparent whilst at the same time meets the changing needs of local voluntary and community sector organisations.”
The group will look at the work of the grants panel, which awards funding to various organisations who apply, as well as looking at the concessionary rents process which enables council-owned properties to be let out for cheaper rates than would normally apply.
They will also ask representatives from the voluntary and community sector about the support they receive and what more could be done.
