OLYMPIC gold medallist Luke Campbell has praised the 'true fighting spirit' of a Redditch teen slimmer.
Joshua Major-Seager reached the finals of Slimming World's Young Slimmer of the Year competition after losing almost three and a half stone.
He also managed to impress the champion boxer, who won gold at the London 2012 Games in the 56kg bantamweight division, when the pair met at the award semi-finals.
Luke said: "The reason the Olympics were so special to me was that it wasn't just one fight, it was the results of years of hard work and I'm sure it's the same for Joshua.
"He didn't achieve this weight loss overnight, it takes real dedication to make such a change but it's great that he's now got a happy, healthy life ahead of him. It shows true fighting spirit."
The 16-year-old was put forward for the competition by the Webheath Slimming World group, which he joined in August 2012. Since his first meeting, he has dropped 3st 3.5lbs, going from 15st 8.5lb to 12st 3lb.
He said: "I used to feel like I was different to all my friends, I felt like I stoof out because I was bigger and I couldn't always do the same things or wear the same clothes as them.
"It affected my confidence and I didn't want to be like that for the rest of my life. I knew that I needed to make changes and I knew I needed help to do that."
