A WEBHEATH woman will be swapping teaching for training as she prepares to run the London Marathon in memory of her grandfather.

Louise MacInnes is hoping to raise more than £1,500 for St Helena’s Hospice where her grandad was looked after during his battle with cancer.

The primary school teacher, who works at Thomas Jolyffe School in Stratford, told the Standard she had previously taken part in 10km events but April 21 would be the first time she had attempted a marathon.

“I am doing it for my grandad who was looking after by the hospice, they were fantastic and amazing.

“I haven’t done that sort of distance before so it’s a bit nerve wracking but I keep saying to myself I’ve done 10km races and it’s only four of them so it doesn’t seem as bad then.

“My grandad was a man who taught me to fight for what you believe in which is why I’m doing the marathon.”
