Bookworms get into character

REDDITCH school pupils brought their favourite books to life as they celebrated World Book Day.

The whole of St Bede’s Middle School dressed up as everything from Gandalf to Little Red Riding Hood and Cruella De Vil to Noah’s Ark.

Throughout the day each classroom was visited by members of Sideways Theatre group, who recreated scenes from famous books such as Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde and George’s Marvellous Medicine.

Students then created postcards which they sent to a friend, designed new book covers and wrote their own short stories.

Year 7 pupils were also visited by a representative from Sight Concern where they learnt about the life of a blind person and created their own Braille.

A spokeswoman for the school said: “The pupils really enjoyed the day and it was great to see that both staff and pupils dressed up and really got involved in the activities.

“It has really helped to promote reading and I hope days like these can inspire some of the children to become authors in the future.”
