FIREFIGHTERS had to rescue a young girl stuck in mud in Oakenshaw.

Crews were called to Pheasant Lane near the Duck Pond pub about 5.30pm on Saturday (March 16) where they used ladders and other equipment to free the girl who was waist-deep in mud for an hour.

One fire engine from Redditch, Water First Responders from Kidderminister and water rescue boats from Evesham and Worcester all attended the scene.

Dave Holland, station commander from Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service, said: "The girl was cold but otherwise unharmed by her ordeal.

"However the outcome could easily have been more serious had she been there by herself and the alarm had not been raised."

He added parents should supervise young children at all times near water and make their older children aware of this incident and the dangers of playing near water and mud.
