Chance to have your say on 6,400 homes plan

CAMPAIGNERS fighting against proposals to build thousands of homes in Webheath and Foxlydiate have been urged to have their say.

Redditch Borough Council’s executive committee has approved consulting on plans to build 6,400 properties in Redditch and across the border in Bromsgrove by 2030 from April 1, despite full council rejecting the idea last month after two Labour councillors left the room before the vote.

The fresh move to put the plans to the public followed a letter from Bromsgrove District Council asking councillors to reconsider. The issue will be debated before full council again on March 25.

But Coun Carole Gandy raised concerns the consultation document did not give residents alternative options. Campaigners say land at Bordesley should be considered for housing.

Ruth Bamford, the council’s head of planning and regeneration, said responses to the consultation would be considered by an independent planning inspector who could overrule the council about where homes should be built.

Coun Greg Chance added: “I am keen for this consultation to go ahead and I plead with the people of Webheath to give us some good sound reasons for their case.”
