Awards to recognise inspiring Redditch residents

A NEW scheme has been launched to recognise residents who contribute to sports, arts and the community.

The Redditch Inspires Awards have been set-up by Redditch Borough Council to recognise individuals, clubs and organisations which have had a positive impact across the borough in the last 12 months.

Awards will be given out in three categories including sports, art and the community with the Volunteer of the Year, Outstanding Arts Organisation and Sports Club of the Year titles also among the 12 up for grabs.

A shortlist will be drawn up from nominations with the awards ceremony taking place on April 30 at the town's Palace Theatre.

John Godwin, head of leisure and community services on the borough council, said: "This is the first year we have held these combined awards which celebrate achievements made within the sports, arts and community achievements.

"These awards follow on from an incredibly inspiring 2012 where the whole country came together as a community and highlighted the rich and diverse parts of Britain’s Culture including the Queen’s Jubilee and the 2012 Olympic Games.

"The council’s sport and arts development teams are looking to celebrate this at a local level with their new Inspire Awards as during their day to day jobs they come into contact with such inspiring individuals and clubs which work hard to improve the life of residents in the borough.

"This is an ideal opportunity to award their efforts and to showcase what Redditch really has to offer."

Nominations can be made up until Wednesday, March 27 by visiting www.redditchbc.gov.uk/inspireawards or calling Sarah Chatterley on 01527 881289 or emailing sarah.chatterley@bromsgroveandredditch.gov.uk for sports nominations or Huw Moseley on 01527 881381 or email h.moseley@bromsgroveandredditch.gov.uk for arts nominations.
