Safety concerns after lift offer

SAFETY concerns have been raised after a young boy was offered a lift home by a passing motorist.

Police are appealing for witnesses and information following the 'suspicious' incident which happened about 8.15pm on Sunday (February 24).

The ten-year-old was walking in Astley Close, Woodrow when a black car pulled up alongside him and the driver asked if he would like a lift. The boy ran straight home and the car drove off up the hill.

The man in the car was dark skinned, aged about 30, tall and was wearing dark glasses.

PC Andrew Cadwallader said: "We do not know the man's motive for speaking to the boy and it could simply have been an offer to take him home.

"The man did not get out of the car and no physical attempt was made to get the boy into the vehicle.

"We would appeal for this man to come forward so we can speak to him to clarify what happened. If anyone thinks they know who he is I would urge them to call us as soon as possible."

Anyone with any information should call PC Cadwallader on 101, quoting incident reference 197-N-240213.
