BRITAIN'S top cyclists will return to the streets of Redditch this summer it has been confirmed.
The town will host round seven of the Halfords Tour Series on Tuesday, June 4 with highlights shown the day after on ITV4.
Household names including Olympian Ed Clancy and top Olympic track sprinter turned road racer Ross Edgar will be amongst the 50 strong field going head-to-head on a specially designed course around the town centre.
Last year's event was the first time a stage of the race had been hosted in Worcestershire and saw about 10,000 people pack into the town to enjoy the action. It also launched the county council's three year Choose How You Move project, to encourage residents to travel in a more sustainable way.
Series race director Mick Bennett said: "Last year was the first time we have visited Redditch, but the event was a great success with a first-class race and a great crowd."
"We are looking forward to returning and working with Worcestershire County Council to put on an even bigger event, and draw even more people along to watch."
Coun John Smith OBE, responsible for highways and transport on the county council, added: "It's great news that The Tour Series is returning to Redditch this year.
"The 2012 event was a huge success, both in terms of marking the launch of our three year 'Choose how you move' programme and in terms of the positive impact the cycle race has had on the Redditch economy.
"We'll be working hard alongside the Tour Series to try and ensure this year will be a similar, if not better event."
