Child abduction rumours 'not true'

RUMOURS circulating about attempted child abductions in Lakeside are not true, police say.

Statuses being shared on social media site Facebook had claimed a woman had approached children in the area.

But in a statement from West Mercia Police, Detective Inspector Rebecca Love said although they were aware of the rumours, they had received no direct or confirmed reports of any incidents in Redditch.

"However we are aware Essex Police are investigating an incident at the Lakeside Shopping Centre in Thurrock on Saturday, February 23, in which a woman approached a girl who was with her family.

"We believe this is the source of the rumours circulating in Redditch. We would like to reassure people that there is no connection between the Essex incident and the Redditch area."
