A WOMAN was sexually assaulted in an underpass near Redditch's Tesco store.

The victim was found in a distressed state on the Evesham Road by a passing motorist about 45minutes after the attack happened about midnight on Saturday (March 2).

The woman, who is in her 20s, was walking on her own in an underpass which leads from the recycling bins on the Tesco car park in Oakenshaw through to Mickleton Close, when she was confronted by a man who sexually assaulted her, before she fled from the scene.

Det Sgt Justin Taylor, of Redditch CID, said they were looking to trace a man seen near the Evesham Road about the time the woman was found who may be a possible witness. He was wearing a cap and a dark coloured body warmer over a red and black striped jumper.

"We would urge him or anyone who thinks they know who he is to contact us as he may have information that could help our investigation," he said.

Anyone with any information should contact Redditch CID on the non-emergency 101 number, quoting incident reference 9-N-030313, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
