A BOROUGH councillor has called on residents to be vigilant after uncovering a drinking den.

Coun Juliet Brunner told the Standard she had stumbled on the area near to homes in Kenchester Close in Matchborough as she walked her dogs. There were more than 100 beer cans as well as rubbish including crisp wrappers left in the undergrowth.

“I was most surprised to find the cans and other rubbish hidden away, normally I only find dog poo. I would ask residents to be vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour to the police.”

She added her family had picked up the cans and she had informed the local policing team and asked them to monitor the area for anti-social behaviour.

PC Paul Downes said: “We are not aware of an increase in anti-social behaviour at this location but regular patrols will continue to ensure this type of incident is dealt with in the appropriate way.

“We regularly work with local stores that sell alcohol to ensure it is not sold to under 18s and will confiscate alcohol from anyone drinking it who is under 18.”

To report any incidents call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
