Mourners pay their respects to former Alcester councillor

RESIDENTS and dignitaries lined the streets of Alcester to say goodbye to former councillor Bill Malin.

Mourners gathered on the High Street on Wednesday (February 27) to pay their respects as the former mayor's funeral took place.

Mr Malin's coffin was draped in the Union Flag while a poppy wreath, his town crier's bell and his past bailiff's sash were also placed on top to mark his service with the Royal British Legion and Alcester Court Leet.

He was taken through the High Street where people stepped out of shops to show their respects.

Royal British Legion members, Town Criers and respective Standards formed a guard of honour outside St Nicholas Church.

Mr Malin, who served on the council for 40 years, passed away at the age of 81 on February 13, just days after retiring.
