A GROUP of men suspected of helping runaway prisoner John Anslow escape have been arrested.

Anslow was sprung from a prison van on January 23 last year as it travelled from HMP Hewell to Stafford Crown Court.

The 31-year-old from Tipton, who is still at large, was on remand at the Tardebigge prison at the time charged with the murder of Richard Deakin in 2010.

West Mercia Police arrested seven men this morning (Wednesday) on suspicion of conspiracy to assist in the escape of Anslow.

They have all been taken to police stations within the force area. Two were arrested in Birmingham, two in Dudley, one in Redditch and the remaining two were already in prison custody.
