A SUPER duo are hoping to be a step ahead of the rest as they climb more than 350 steps to raise money for Birmingham Children’s Hospital.
Liz Walker and Joy Williamson aim to fly up 18 floors of The Cube in Birmingham City Centre tomorrow (Saturday) to fund new neurosurgical equipment.
The pair, who will be dressed as Wonder Woman and Supergirl, chose to raise money for the hospital which has treated Mrs Walker’s son Rafe after he was diagnosed with a brain tumour nearly five years ago.
She said: “The pain of training for the Stair Rush is nothing compared to the pain, endurance and bravery that these children go through every day. All I have to do is run up a few flights of stairs with legs that work, a ticking heart and a healthy brain.
“We’ve been running up and down the Kingfisher car park to try and get in some preparation but there’s only 90 steps there, so more than three times that is going to be so much harder.”
The Hunt End resident added family, friends and Rafe will be cheering for them on the day.
“He’s coming to watch and support us and I hope we make him proud. He’s done a lot of great things and raised a lot of money for such a fantastic cause.”
With the help of family, friends, schools and Redditch companies the Walker family have already raised over £33,000 to help patients.
