A BOROUGH golf club is celebrating a hole in 100 with a year of celebrations.
Redditch Golf Club members are marking its centenary with the annual Battle of Grinsty Hill, the Kevin Phillips Cup featuring teams of football club supporters and a concert in July.
The organisation was founded in 1913 with an 18-hole exhibition match and spent the next 59 years at Plymouth Road.
When the building of the Bromsgrove Highway cut the course in half, the decision was made in 1972 to move the club to its current home in Callow Hill. In the process the club left behind a public golf course for the town.
Centenary captain Tom Sheldon said: “We will be using our centenary year not only to celebrate 100 years with our members, but also to reach out to the local community and invite young and old to come and try their hand at golf.
“2013 is not only our Centenary Year, it is also the year in which local people can come and find out just what a sporting gem they have on their doorstep – a great golf course and a welcome in the clubhouse for one and all.”
