A GROUP of teens have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man died following a street attack.

The man, who has now been named by police as 50-year-old Nigel Shakespear, was attacked while he was walking home from the Kings Arms pub with his wife shortly before 12.30am yesterday (Sunday).

Police arrested five teenage boys shortly after Mr Shakespear was pronounced dead at University Hospital in Coventry having been transferred there from the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch. He had fallen to the ground during the assault in Sillins Avenue, Lakeside, and hit his head.

Three of those in custory are aged 17, one is 16 and the fifth is 18 and they are all from Redditch.

Detective inspector Adam Hartwright said: "We are still appealing to the public to come forward if they have any information about this incident. We have had a good response so far and we are piecing together what happened in the early hours of Sunday morning.

"Officers are carrying out house to house inquiries and local police patrols have been stepped up in the Lakeside area of Redditch.

“We would remind residents that this type of crime is rare in the town and we are working hard to get to the bottom of what happened at the weekend."

Anyone with any information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
