CHILDREN at a borough play scheme received £700 worth of new toys from town fund-raisers.
The YMCA's YPlay morning and after school club at Willow Trees Children's Centre in Loxley Close, was given the money by Astwood Bank carnival committee after applying for funding and entering a float in last year's carnival procession.
The committee donated £6,000 to different charities throughout the town and invited everyone to create their own float following the theme of Great Britons.
Donna Dyer, YPlay co-ordinator said: "On behalf of all of the children and parents from YPlay we would to thank the carnival committee for their generous donation."
She also thanked all the children and parents who helped create the float and for their continued support.
Ashley Hewitt, carnival committee procession manager, added he was delighted to donate the money to such a great organisation and thanked everyone on the committee for their hard work in raising money for the town.
