Hi: 15° Lo:3° 7 day

REDDITCH Swimming Club members began 2013 with an impressive win in the first round of the PGL swimming league.
Holidays and bad weather meant swimmers had endured a prolonged lay-off from action but the town aces were determined to impress on their return to the pool at the Abbey Stadium.
Training has been constant all through the break and it showed as Redditch claimed an emphatic victory with a total of 188 points, ahead of Oldbury on 166, Cheltenham on 135 and Warley Wasps on 84.
The very full programme of 60 races saw RSC win 21 individual events and ten relays and 20 swims resulted in personal best times.
RSC winners were: nine-year-olds - Daniel Holmes (PB), Poppy Oliver (PB), Louise Quirke, Jessica Mowat, Katie Rolph.
10/U - Oliver Walker, Zac George (PB), Rory Elliott (PB), Megan Grainger, Katie Mellors.
11/U - Harry Wood (PB), Nathan Clee (PB), Guy Anderson (PB), Freya Harper (PB), Millie Gane (PB).
12/U - Callum Yearby, Amber Hemming (PB), Faith Mowat (PB).
13/14 - Lewis Heal (PB), Amy Green (PB), Megan Mellors (PB).
Other swimmers who achieved PBs were James Coward, Dan Stanley, Daniel Jackson, Morgan King, Leah Cassell and Sophie-Mae Oliver.
RSC head coach Chris Britt commented: "We have maintained our training regime all through the Christmas break in preparation for next month's Worcester County Championships.
"This PGL gala demonstrated the strength in depth coming through the RSC coaching system and we look forward confidently to round two.
"To get 20 PBs out of 21 races is exceptional. We sometimes forget a PB is the fastest he/she has ever swum before and it is clear that our swimmers give everything when representing Redditch.
"Some of our nine-year-old swimmers were competing for the very first time and almost achieved a clean sweep in their set of races."
