A REDDITCH man has been left fighting for his life after a crash on the motorway near Doncaster.

The 58-year-old is being treated at the Northern General Hospital following the incident on the A1M between Junctions 36 and 37 at 6.10am yesterday (Sunday).

He was a passenger in a white DAF HGV which crashed into the rear of a green Tipper HGV which had stopped to assist following a crash involving a silver Vauxhall Astra and a white MAN Tipper HGV.

The driver in the Redditch man's vehicle - a 47-year-old Leeds man - died in the crash while another passenger - a 35-year-old Bedford man - has been taken to Doncaster Royal Infirmary with life-threatening injuries.

The Vauxhall Astra driver, a 26-year-old from Doncaster, was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and the northbound carriageway was closed for more than eight hours following the incident.
