Homes to get flood defences

MORE than £40,000 worth of flood defences will be provided to residents living near Inkberrow.

Around a dozen homes in Stock Green will be provided with flood guards on doors, air bricks that close, toilet devices that prevent sewerage from coming back up and anti-flood valves in a bit to stop flooding.

The properties are deemed at risk due to the Bow Brook flooding them in the past. The aim is to complete the £44,000 project by next year.

The bulk of the money, some £39,000, will come from a grant from the Severn and Wye Regional Flood and Coastal Committee, secured by Wychavon District Council.

A spokesman for Wychavon District Council said: "Our engineers will work with homeowners and independent consultants to assess relevant properties, and then specialist manufacturers can provide competitive quotes for the flood protection equipment or devices that each property may need.

"The time scale for work will initially be dependent on when we receive the funding. There will also be individual meetings with homeowners, consultants, so there is no definite time as to when the work may begin just yet."

Stella Wallis, chairman of Stock and Bradley Parish Council, added: "I've been here for 17 years and flooding has been a problem for some time. In 2009 a number of homes were badly affected after the brook gave in and the recent heavy rainfall has impacted another property.

"I just hope it goes ahead and it works for the people in this parish. If it works it will really help and I am very pleased to see something is being done."
