TITLE-CHASING Alcester Nomads were unable to maintain their winning run as opponents C&G Show produced an impressive display to secure a 322-309 victory in the Swan Studley Skittles League.
C&G Show were left needing a daunting 72 pins in the last leg to win but did so comfortably by scoring a great 85 pins which included three players notching stack-ups - Rita Passey 13 and Dave Williams 14 (in a total of 39 each) and John Hall 13 in a total of 37.
In an earlier leg, team-mate Craig Sears had a 14 stack and finished top scorer for C&G with 40.
For Alcester Nomads, the best score of 38 came from Alan Spreckley with good support from Gordon and Wendy Povey (34 each) and Alan Cummings (33).
Leaders, Maudslay took full advantage of Nomads' slip-up by gaining maximum points as they easily beat Well Developed 341-272.
Only three players (ten players in a side) from Maudslay failed to score 34 or more pins as Mark Sanseverino (40) and Tim Greenaway (36) set a high standard.
In contrast, only three players for WD managed 30 or more pins, with a 32 from Jim Child being the best return.
Also taking advantage of Nomads' defeat were third placed Engineers who also recorded maximum points to move within touching distance of Nomads.
Engineers' opponents Alley Cats paid the price for playing the game two players short and had, by far, their poorest game of the season as only Loz Gaseley, Ben and Flash had respectable scores (31 pins each).
Engineers had a 40 score by Birdie, a 34 from Guns and 32s from Ian Greenaway, Andy Clewlow and Gary Ganderton as they prevailed 275-226.
Swan continue to hold hopes of a top two finish and with it a trophy and did their cause no harm by collecting the week's third maximum points haul with the highest team total of the week.
Swingers were on the receiving end of some excellent and consistent bowling by Swan's Mel Bayliss (38) and four 37s - one each from Graham Howells, Dave Maule, Joe Withers and Charlie Withers - as a 314-290 victory was secured.
Swingers' main replies came from Larry Hanks and Mike Pilkington (35 each), with Brenda Morris and Christine chipping in with 33 apiece.
Team BG seem to enjoy playing in tight games and their latest fixture, against Mixtures, was no exception.
In winning the game 304-291, Team BG continued to show improved performances and are looking to finish in their highest position in the league for many seasons.
Carl Baker (35), Gail Stringer (34) and Mary Withers and Janet Mole (33 each) shone for Team BG.
Results: C&G Show 8 points (322 pins) Alcester Nomads 3 (309); Well Developed 1 (272) Maudslay 10 (341); Alley Cats 1 (226) Engineers 10 (275); Swan 10 (314) Swingers 1 (290); Mixtures 3.5 (291) Team BG 7.5 (304).
