Punters enjoy plenty of pints at ale festival

MORE than 1,800 pints of beer and 320 pints of cider and perry were consumed at this year's Redditch Winter Ales Festival, which took place last Friday and Saturday (February 1 and 2).

The beer of the festival was Angel's Bob 62, the cider was Tardebigge Cider and the perry was Gwynt Yddraig's Two Trees.

More than 500 people went along during the two-day event, which was held at Rocklands Social Club in Headless Cross.

Paul Richards, chairman of the Redditch and Bromsgrove branch of CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale) which organised the event, said: "It was our best attendance ever and was so great to see so many people there enjoying beer."

Redditch MP and CAMRA branch member Karen Lumley attended on both days, volunteering to work on the reception on the Saturday.

She said: "Real ale is a great British tradition and its continued success depends on grassroots community support at events such as this.The festival is always a very fun and well-attended event.

"Long may that continue."
