FITNESS fanatics can test their mettle at the latest addition to the regional sporting calendar later this year in the shape of The Avenger Triathlon at Ragley Hall.
Entries are now being taken for the triathlon, which takes place on Sunday, June 23 (7.30am) in the beautiful grounds of Ragley Hall, Alcester, and is a half-iron distance event - a 1.2-mile swim and 56-mile bike ride, finished off with a half-marathon run.
Triathlon is now the UK's fastest growing sport - growing at a rate of ten per cent a year - and this is set to continue on the back of the Brownlee brothers' success at London 2012.
It is especially popular among 35 to 50-year-olds and its appeal is that people compete in their age groups, so you can win at any age!
The Avenger takes place on quiet roads and paths so, whether you are a first time middle distance eventer or a seasoned triathlete wanting to race in a stunning setting, the Avenger will have something for you.
The undulating bike route is part of the National Road Race Championship cycling course, the swim is in Ragley Hall Lake which is already used by triathletes for open water swimming and the running route takes place in the hall's scenic grounds, mainly off-road.
Entry costs £104 and all profits go to the organiser's charity Kids Run Free - www.kidsrunfree.co.uk - a not-for-profit company.
Raceways Events - www.raceways.eu - set up Kids Run Free to get more children active and passionate about sport. Every weekend they have hundreds of children running at their Kids Run Free events across the Midlands.
