A CONCERNED mother has been left forking out for bottled water after refusing to allow her baby to drink the cloudy liquid pouring from her taps.

The water supply to Charlotte King's Lea Croft Road home was cut off on Monday afternoon (February 4), at which point she was assured it would return as normal later that evening.

Despite the supply coming back on, it has since been a milky colour which Ms King said she did not feel safe to use, especially for her six-month-old daughter.

"I contacted them on Tuesday to see what was going on and they said I had to leave my water tap running for 20 minutes. I then rang them back again, they said the same thing that it was safe for me and my daughter to drink. In total I rang them about 11 times and even spoke to the manager.

"I'm spending around £6 a day on bottled water and no one has provided us with any water, we are all going to family to fill bottles up or buying it from the shop.

"Although they have said it is safe to drink, by the look of it I wouldn't want to drink it and I definitely don't want to let my daughter drink it."

A spokeswoman for Severn Trent said: "We would like to apologise to Ms King for any concerns she may have had concerning her water quality."

She added an emergency repair following damage to a pipe had restored water supply to all customers on Monday and further repairs were completed later that day.

"Ms King contacted us on Tuesday to raise concerns about her water looking ‘milky’ and we informed her that was because there was air in the water following the supply interruption. We advised her to run her water for some time until the air escaped from the system and the water ran clear. Air in the water supply is in no way harmful to our customers and is safe to drink."
