Feckenham photographer loses cancer battle

A RENOWNED Feckenham photographer has passed away aged just 60.

Tony Flanagan, one of the Midlands' best known press photographers, lost his battle with cancer on Monday (February 4).

Tony, known as Flan to his friends, won a number of awards during his career which began on the Birmingham Evening Mail in 1972. He spent 15 years there before going freelance in 1987 and was also a long-standing Birmingham Press Club member and former director.

As well as taking pictures, Tony - who leaves behind a son Alex - had a passion for business, building up a property portfolio and renting out several cottages within the village.

Andy Skinner, managing director of ASAP PR and his friend of 35 years, said: "He was a real professional and a great friend to so many of us."

Birmingham Press Club vice-chairman Fred Bromwich, who first worked with Tony more than four decades ago, added: "I will always remember Tony as a dynamic photographer - full of charm, confidence and a true professional who created so many award-winning images. He was a photographic magician.

"Tony had one of the best contact books in the business. In fact, he was so well known that his death will touch goodness knows how many people.

"He will be sadly missed - but at least we will all have some fantastic memories of him to cherish."
