A STUDLEY organisation which answers 999 calls is appealing for new volunteers to help save lives.
The village’s Community First Responder team currently only has three people who dealt with 1,500 jobs throughout 2012 ranging from falls to cardiac arrests. The team attends emergency calls, providing first aid until an ambulance arrives on the scene.
Scheme co-ordinator Martin Barry told the Standard the volunteers worked on a rota so anyone signing up would be able to choose how often they were on call. Unlike other CFR teams, the Studley group continue with their daily life while on call, making sure they are available should an emergency occur.
“It’s great and makes a huge difference to the community. We are looking for people who are honest, dedicated and put other people before themselves,” he said.
“There is no financial reward but there is a lot of satisfaction which comes with it and people really remember you when you have helped them.
“All of the training is provided and someone new is never put out there on their own. We do as much as we can to help them and would never expect somebody who has never been out before to go straight out and deal with a case.”
To find out more, visit www.wmas.nhs.uk or search for Studley Community First Responders on Facebook or Twitter. Volunteers must be over 18, able to drive and have no criminal convictions.
