Prisoner found with serious head injuries

AN INVESTIGATION has been opened after a man was found in his cell at HMP Hewell suffering with serious head injuries.

West Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed a crew was sent to the Tardebigge based prison on Monday (January 28) about 1.45pm and took the man to hospital.

Police visited HMP Hewell later in the afternoon and four men were arrested in connection with the incident.

A spokesman from West Mercia Police said the men were helping them with their enquiries and the prison authorities were fully co-operating with their investigation.

A spokeswoman from the Prison Service said the matter was now in the hands of the police.
