Drain cover thief pleads guilty

A STUDLEY man has pleaded guilty to stealing metal drain covers worth more than £40,000.

Graham Leith, of High Street, appeared before Hereford Crown Court on Monday (January 28) on four separate charges of theft.

In total, he stole 111 drain covers from Worcestershire County Council, targeting roads in Redditch and Tardebigge.

The offences took place between November 2011 and January last year, with the 27-year-old accused of stealing from Studley Road, Arthur Street, Hunt End Lane and Hewell Lane among others.

He previously pleaded guilty to the theft of 57 covers in Shirley, worth £14,250 and converting criminal property which relates to the sale of drain covers in Birmingham.

The case has been adjourned for sentencing at Worcester Crown Court during the week commencing Monday (February 25).
