HOLYOAKES Field First School pupils had a flying start to the day as they took part in a balloon release.

More than 30 Year 2 pupils let go of 70 balloons as part of a new topic learning about different countries.

Each balloon was labelled with the school’s address in the hope they would reach people on foreign soil.

And pupils were delighted to be informed the balloons had reached France Switzerland and Italy, as well as a little closer to home in nearby Coventry.

Elm and Cedar class teacher Julia Potter said: “The children have been so excited every morning to see if we have heard from anyone else. We then mark on a big map where each balloon has travelled to and learn about the separate countries.”

She added by sending the balloons the school also hoped to create links with other schools across the world.
