VOLUNTEERS are needed to help improve the appearance of part of Redditch.
Mayor Alan Mason is calling for green-fingered residents to come forward and give their time to help tidy up the gardens of homes in Abbeydale.
About 30 gardens have been initially identified as in need of a revamp and tools and plants will be supplied to those who want to get involved.
The Abbeydale In Bloom project is aimed at helping homeowners, private and council tenants who are unable to maintain their gardens due to a lack of money, their age or disability and it is hoped will form part of the 2013 Redditch In Bloom bid to help the town strike gold for the third year running.
Coun Mason said: “We’ve got the money to do it but we need the bodies. It’s a chance for people to get involved in their community, take pride in where they live and improve the appearance of the estate.”
Pupils from The Forge Secondary Short Stay School in Easemore Road are already involved in the project and have helped makeover two gardens already.
Anyone wanting to get involved should contact Karen Lethbridge at Redditch Borough Council on 01527 64252 ext 3286.
