A REDDITCH medic raised more than £2,000 cycling and rowing to Paris without even leaving the borough.

Dr Chris Mowatt took on the challenge of travelling over 400km on exercise equipment in the League of Friends coffee shop at the Alexandra Hospital, where he works as a consultant anaesthetist.

He was inspired to take on the challenge to raise money for the Garden Suite, which provides cancer services in Worcestershire, following the death of colleague Tanya Rees from lung cancer at the end of last year.

He was helped by Tanya's Girls - a group of nurses on the intensive therapy unit who have run half marathons and organised social events.

"Having witnessed Tanya's bravery and seen first hand the fantastic, compassionate care offered by the oncology team at the Alexandra, myself and the team in the ITU decided to raise some funds to support Tanya, her family and the Garden Suite.

"The challenge itself took 16 hours and considerably longer to recover from. My knees are yet to forgive me."
