THE MAYOR and mayoress of Redditch are hoping to swap lbs for pounds to raise money for good causes.

Coun Alan Mason and his wife Nina plan to drop three stone between them by the time the mayoral year ends in May.

But as an added incentive to spur their weight loss on the pair have decided to get sponsored to slim down and raise money for Coun

Mason's chosen good causes Worcestershire Wildlife Trust and Child Alert UK.

The Abbeydale resident said a Conservative councillor had already offered him £1 for every lb he loses.

"It's something I've been meaning to do for ages but now seems like a good time to do it. Although I don't eat processed food I know I've been eating the wrong things so this is a chance to set an example to everyone about the importance of eating healthily," he said.

Coun Mason is also inviting people to join them in their sponsored slimathon. Anyone who wants to take part or donate should call the

Mayor's PA on 01527 534123 ext 3408.
