CHICKEN chain Nando's has confirmed it is looking to open a restaurant in Redditch but has ruled out a move into the Kingfisher Shopping Centre.
It has long been rumoured the firm would be one of the companies setting up base in the new food court the centre's owners Capital & Regional plan to create around the Apollo Cinema.
But when contacted by The Standard the company said they had now ruled out the location as a possibility.
Nigel Sherwood, regional managing director of Nando’s, said: "Nando’s looked at the Kingfisher Shopping Centre but we felt the site wasn’t quite right for us.
"We’d love to open a restaurant in Redditch, but we’re still yet to find the perfect site. The search continues.
"The demand for a Nando’s in Redditch has been overwhelming, with many local fans taking to Facebook and Twitter to voice their support.
"There is clearly a huge demand in Redditch for PERi-PERi chicken. We’ll be in touch as soon as we have more information."
