Public meeting to discuss Youth House future

CAMPAIGNERS are turning to the public for help planning the future of Redditch Youth House.

The venue shut its doors at the end of 2012 but Redditch Youth and Community Enterprise (RYCE) members are hoping to take over control of the building from Worcestershire County Council.

A public meeting to gather ideas from residents about what they want to see the building used for and how they can get involved in the project is being held on Wednesday, January 23 at 6pm at Redditch Town Hall.

Chairman Ray Groves said despite its closure, they remained confident the Ipsley Street building could have a future including the sports clubs, youth groups, community groups and children's clubs which have been forced to find an alternative venue while it remains shut.

"We think there is a bright future for the Youth House and it could do a lot more for Redditch people than it ever did in the past," he said.

"We want to set up a co-operative community group to take over the building and to run it for the benefit of the whole of the town. it's been done in towns all over the country so why not in Redditch?

"With good public support the Youth House can be bought and rise again as a venue for arts, sports, music, young people’s groups, community groups and charities, helping families, services for young and old. training, health and education.

"The meeting on January 23 is a crucial step on that journey. Even if people can’t make the meeting we need to hear from you."
