A CAR lost control and smashed into a tree during an early morning Bromsgrove Highway crash.

Police were called to the highway near the Foxlydiate turning at 5.30am today (Tuesday) after the car left the Redditch-bound carriageway.

The driver was treated at the scene by West Midlands Ambulance Service for a minor head injury but did not need hospital treatment.

A spokeswoman for West Mercia Police reiterated warnings to motorists to drive carefully following recent bad weather which has left ice on many of the borough's roads.

"We have seen a small increase in incidents. We would remind drivers to watch their speed, keep alert and take it slowly."
