THE PUBLIC will be able to attend the funeral of a popular Redditch personality.

Richard Wiseman's family have decided to invite residents to join them to say goodbye to the man who was ever present in the town centre for decades.

Initially the funeral was going to be a family only affair but following the hundreds of tributes paid to Richard, who passed away at the Alexandra Hospital on January 5, the decision has now been reversed.

In a statement the Wiseman family said: "Anyone wishing to come along will be warmly welcomed."

The funeral takes place on Wednesday, January 23 at 9.30am at Redditch Crematorium.

Flowers have been laid in Church Green by residents who gathered on Saturday (January 12) to pay their respects to Richard and a book of condolence is available at the Worcester Square information point in the Kingfisher Shopping Centre for people to sign.

Staff at the Timpson store are also in talks with centre management about designing and putting up a plaque in Richard's memory.
