Prolific Pugh inspires Beoley Village cup upset

THE BRT Terry Cup took centre stage on Sunday in the latest Redditch & South Warwickshire Combination action and goal machine James Pugh stole the limelight with a fabulous hat-trick as Beoley Village registered the upset of the day by beating visitors Thomas Brothers 3-0.

The first goal came after two minutes as he found the top corner from the edge of the area. Just as the Division One visitors battled back into the game, a well-timed run and clever finish on the half hour mark put the hosts in control and they did not look back.

The Villagers play Premier Division outfit Hizza United in the next round after they made no mistake at home to Royal Oak Studley with a 7-1 win.

A thunderous header from Matt Rowland opened the scoring for Washford Lions against table-topping rivals and visitors Woodland and, with the game evenly poised at 3-2, a shot from Sean Trainor slipped through the keeper's hands to put the hosts through to the next round.

Redditch Cricket Club took full advantage of a depleted JMC United to send the hosts crashing to an 8-2 loss and set up a mouth-watering tie against Austin Ex-Apprentices.

Goals from James Blake and Stuart Hall in a devastating 90 seconds midway through the second half prevented Wychbold RBL from shaking up the Premier Division title race as leaders Black Horse came from behind to win 3-2 after goals from Tom Harris and Aaron Stephens had put the hosts ahead.

In Division Two Merchants moved off the bottom of the table with an emphatic 9-0 victory over visitors Mayfly and in Division Three Woodrow went second after a 3-2 win at Sporting Club Redditch.

At the other end of the table, a second half Laan David penalty put Washford Lions Reserves in front against visitors Shakespeare, but fortune favoured the brave as a late Peace shot found the back of the net to rescue a point in a 1-1 draw.

In the BCFA Sunday Vase Wythall Wanderers suffered cup heartbreak as they succumbed to a dramatic last minute free kick in losing 4-3 at home to Staffs Knot.

Results: Premier Division - Wychbold RBL 2 (Stephens, Harris) Black Horse 3 (Hall 2, Blake).
