New Webheath plans imminent

DEVELOPERS wanting to build up to 200 homes on a controversial site in Webheath say they intend to resubmit their amended plans this month.

Campaigners have been waiting since October for news about the proposals for the Church Road site, within the Webheath Area of Development Restraint (ADR), after Barratt Homes and Taylor Wimpey withdrew their original application in October.

At the time a spokesman for the two companies said they were revisiting the plans with a view to amending them following feedback from residents and other interested parties.

A total of 900 people objected to the plans with over 1,200 backing a petition by the Webheath Action Group. Objections centred around roads being unable to cope with increased traffic, increased flooding, lack of public transport and employment opportunities as well as the ability of GPs surgeries, shops and schools to cope.

Campaigners also point to an independent report from consultants White Young Green into the future growth implications of Redditch which stated the Webheath ADR should not be developed and treated as an extension of the green belt.

A spokesman for the developers said: "We are committed to developing this site and we are currently holding detailed discussions with the local planning authority to ensure our proposals meet their requirements and those of other key stakeholders.

"For this reason, we expect to submit additional information relating to the outline application proposals to the local planning authority in January."

As a result of the delay, Redditch Borough Council has reconfirmed a new round of consultation lasting 21 days will be held once the altered plans have been received and made available to the public to comment on the changes. It will then go to the planning committee at a date to be decided.

On the night Webheath Action Group will get 15 minutes to speak between them, other registered objectors will get the same amount of time as will registered supporters.

Councillors for Webheath will get three minutes each and the developers will get 15 minutes as well as the use of any time not used by supporters of the application.

The amended plans should be available to view online by visiting www.redditchbc.gov.uk/planning and typing in reference number 2012/207/OUT.
