IT IS rare to say with such assurance that this year will be one we won’t forget, however 2012 will undoubtedly live long in the memory. Put simply, it was the year we put the Great back into Great Britain.
Two truly historic events with the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in June which despite the rain saw thousands of people line up to see the historic flotilla run through the Thames.
Of course, the complete spectacle of the London Olympic Games opening ceremony was something which I am sure everyone was incredibly inspired by. The London Olympics and Paralympics are now widely revered as the greatest ever and were a magnificent showcase to the rest of the World that this country, whilst having a proud history, also has a bright and dynamic future.
Having the honour of meeting Her Majesty The Queen in Worcestershire this summer was a proud moment and it was great to see her in great health and very much in fine form.
This year, I have continued to work closely with our armed forces, taking part in several pre-deployment training weeks. The work our troops do must never be underestimated. They do an incredibly brave and brilliant job.
Throughout the year we have had positive news on the jobs front and hosting the successful Redditch Jobs Fair at NEW College in October was something which I was very pleased with. This month, I was delighted to welcome the Prime Minister to Lear Corporation, a successful manufacturing company which is an example for others to follow.
I would like to take this opportunity to wish all my constituents a wonderful and pleasant New Year.
