Patients evacuated after arson attack at hospital

PATIENTS were evacuated from the Alexandra Hospital after a fire on a first floor ward.

Firefighters were called at 7.11am today (Wednesday) to a blaze in the ward after staff noticed the flames.

Although it was contained to a small area, some smoke damage was caused and some patients had to be evacuated from the immediate area.

No-one was was injured.

Following the incident, a man has been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life.

Anyone with any information should contact the Police on the non-emergency number 101, quoting the incident reference 71-S-191212.
