Hospital saves £40,000

WORCESTERSHIRE'S hospitals are set to save £40,000 by the end of the year by changing the way they order and store equipment.

Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust has managed to cut costs by using its endoscopy team to identify wasteful spending on brand products and to pay for only what they use.

The group, led by unit manager Marek Waliszewski, selected new suppliers and changed the brand used for cleaning equipment and detergent.

Stewart Messer, chief operating officer for the Trust said The NHS was being pushed all the time to make savings and improve quality of care.

"The people in the best position to identify potential improvement are our frontline staff, so we’re running a suggestion scheme and asking every team to look at ways they could improve or save, he said.

“It’s not just about cash savings, we need to be efficient and that could mean saving our patients time, or making a service even better - without any additional cost."
