RESIDENTS are being offered the chance to meet the doctors who will be in charge of managing the borough's NHS from next spring.
The Redditch and Bromsgrove Clinical Commissioning Group is being launched next Wednesday (December 12) and will be responsible for planning and arranging about £180million worth of services.
The new organisation takes over responsibility for commissioning services in April next year from Worcestershire Primary Care Trust as part of the Government's reorganisation of the NHS, with the aim of moving responsibility for providing services as close to patients as possible.
Next week's event takes place between 6.30pm and 8pm at Redditch Town Hall and will give people the chance to find out more about what the CCG will do and the challenges it faces.
Dr Jonathan Wells, Redditch GP and chair of Redditch and Bromsgrove CCG, said: "It is an exciting time in healthcare, and the Government reforms open up new opportunities to improve the quality of patient services. RBCCG has been working hard as a membership organisation of the 22 GP practices across Redditch and Bromsgrove, to ensure we are ready to the do job of serving our local population as best we can from April 2013.
"To do the job well, we need to involve local people in important decisions about their healthcare, which is why we are encouraging residents to come along to the public launch and meet us. We hope the event will help people to understand who we are and what our aims and priorities are for the future."
Anyone who would like to attend should book a place by contacting Bethan Flynn, executive administrator by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or call 01527 488746.
