Evesham 43 Kings Norton 17
A POOR start sentenced Kings Norton to a Midlands Three West (South) defeat at Evesham on Saturday.
The visitors, sporting their new kit sponsored by Welcome Break, paid the penalty for conceding 22 unanswered points in the first half before hauling themselves into what eventually became a well fought contest.
Kings forwards matched the home side in the set pieces but failed to make much headway through their threequarter attacks, clearly missing a couple of ball players.
High-flying Evesham capitalised with speedy counter attacks which resulted in three tries, two of which were converted, plus an early penalty to deserve healthy half time advantage.
KIngs started the second half well and Gareth Johnson was held up close to the line before outside half Chris Carlin finally ghosted through to score and convert his own try.
Minutes later Carlin converted a penalty following a desperate infringement by the home forwards.
Evesham regained their composure and were soon back on the attack scoring a try in the left hand corner following a long range kick and chase.
The hosts followed up by punishing a poor clearance to score a converted try which put them 24 points ahead.
Kings were spurred into immediate action from this error and powered forward to drive their hosts back and as they fed the ball swiftly along their line should have easily scored but the ball was strangely taken back into the forwards from the wing with the line begging.
Kings maintained their forward pressure and eventually Johnson went over under the posts and Carlin added the extras.
Evesham finally put the game beyond doubt when they raced away to claim a late converted try which sealed a fully deserved victory
Kings have arranged to use neighbours Woodrush’s ground to play their next league match against Ledbury this Saturday as Hopwood Park is being prepared for the popular Sppoktacular event which consists of a bonfire, fireworks, halloween and evening entertainment.
