CHRISTMAS spirit was in the air as Redditch's festive lights were switched on.
Entertainment at the Redditch Borough Council and Town Centre Partnership event on Saturday (November 24) included performances from samba percussion group Glamba, Redditch Youth Theatre, singer Becky Neale and band Stakeout.
The borough's mayor Alan Mason and MP Karen Lumley were on hand along with around 200 residents to watch the cast of the Palace Theatre 2012 pantomime Sleeping Beauty turn on the lights and refreshments were provided by the Stranz Cafe and Perfect Pig Roasts.
Town centre co-ordinator Lyndsey Hadley said: "Despite the appalling weather we had a good turnout and kicked off our countdown to Christmas in Redditch Town Centre.
"For more festive fun residents can come and visit our Christmas food and craft market on Saturday, December 8, for all their shopping needs."
