A CYCLIST suffered a head injury and a fractured collar bone after the bike he was riding was involved in a crash with a lorry in Wythall.

The incident happened on Hill Lane just before 6.30pm this evening (Tuesday).

West Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed an emergency doctor, a crew and a senior paramedic officer attended the scene.

A spokeswoman said: "An off duty junior doctor had stopped to help and was with the man when crews arrived."

She added after being given pain relief and oxygen the man, who was in his 20s, was immobilised with a neck collar and spinal board before being taken to Birmingham's Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

Police said the driver of the white articulated truck also involved, a man in his 30s, was uninjured while one lane of the A435 was closed for most of the evening.

Anyone with any information should call PC Paul Pickering on 101, quoting incident reference number 186-N-271112.
