STUDLEY Parish Council held their awards evening on Saturday when the village-based Jump Rope UK team of Beci and Rachael Dale, Gemma McGhee, Laura Summers, Lauren Shepherd and Stacie Pegg were honoured when awarded the council's 'Golden Jubilee Shield For Outstanding Youth Achievement' for 2012.
In his speech Parish council chairman Paul Beaman mentioned Jump Rope UK's achievements throughout the year, including Studley Jubilee Celebration Party in the Park where senior and junior members of JRUK performed for the crowd.
He went on to mention their trip to Washington in July to World Jump Rope where they returned home with numerous trophies followed by the London Olympics where JRUK's four senior members - Beci, Rachael, Gemma and Laura - were part of the international 'Get Tricky' team formed by team manager Sue Dale and performed 30 shows over two weeks at the Basketball Arena and O2 Arena for the men's finals.
The Jump Rope team not only compete and demonstrate but also offer training to adults and children alike, not only in a recreational capacity but also for coaching and Young Leaders roles.
Jump Rope UK will be holding a Jump Rope Festival on May 19 next year at Lilleshall Sports Centre, which will be a day of demonstrations and workshops from skippers/schools all over the country. Anyone interested in information on this event should visit www.jumpruk.com for details.
