THE QUICK thinking actions of two boys who came to the rescue of an injured friend have been praised by their proud mothers.
Jack Bird and Shane Green were on hand to help out after a fellow pupil in Year 8 at Woodfield Middle School fell over in Lodge Park Drive on the way home from school, landing on his head.
Managing to keep calm, they were able to keep him conscious, apply pressure to the wound and call an ambulance. The boy was taken to the Alexandra Hospital and needed five stitches.
Shane told the Standard he had been thanked repeatedly for his actions by the boy's parents.
The 12-year-old said: "They kept saying thank you and were really happy me and Jack had helped him and went to see how he was the next day."
His mother Jackie said she had received a call from her son last Wednesday (October 24) telling her he would be late home as he wanted to stay with his friend until the ambulance arrived.
But incredibly Jack did not tell his mother Sue he had been helping his classmate, even when she told him off for arriving home late from school.
"He didn't actually tell me himself, someone messaged me on Facebook to tell me about what he'd done so I felt bad for telling him off," she said.
"I really am very proud, Jack is very mature for his age and is a very caring lad so it's great him and Shane were actually there.
"Both of them did really well and it shows there are some really good kids out there."
