HUNDREDS of jobs are set to be on offer at a special event organised by the town's MP.
Karen Lumley is hosting the jobs fair at NEW College from 10am to 3pm on Friday, October 26.
An estimated 30 local and regional businesses from a variety of sectors including manufacturing, retail, recruitment and government organisations have signed up for the event.
Among those present will be the British Army, Sainsbury's, Mettis Aerospace, Birmingham Airport, Oakland International, Knights Pharmacy, Rockline Industries and the Lear Corporation. Both full and part-time jobs will be available including temporary Christmas positions and full-time roles.
Staff from Redditch Jobcentre Plus will also be on hand to help guide job hunters through the vacancies on offer and to advise on benefits while information will be available from Redditch Borough Council for those wanting to start their own business. CSV Redditch will provide advice on CV writing and interview skills, while recruitment agencies E-Response and JHP Employability will also be represented.
There are currently 1,935 people claiming Jobseekers' Allowance across Redditch, but figures also show the Jobcentre alone has over 1,000 unfilled vacancies.
Mrs Lumley said businesses she spoke to were creating jobs and keen to employ people but the perception among job seekers was there were no jobs available.
"As MP for Redditch I want to do all in my power to help local people secure employment," she said.
"I know there are jobs out there and available in Redditch at companies which are doing well and expanding. By the same score I know how many unemployed there are in Redditch, and if by running this Jobs Fair I can help get the two together I would consider that to be a great success."
