A SUPERB total of more than £7,000 was raised when Abbeydale Golf Society staged their Charity Golf Day in aid of The Luke Chapman Fund.

Fifteen-year-old Luke died unexpectedly in March 2012 from Sudden Adult Death Syndrome (SADS) and the society is now raising funds for Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) - a charity founded in 1995 to provide support and information about cardiac risk in young people.

Spearheaded by Rick Gill, the Charity Golf Day at the Abbey Hotel Golf & Country Club saw many prizes donated for the fund-raising raffle and auction, whilst the action out on the course was very exciting as around 80 players competed.

The best team was Sam Chapman’s, whilst the runners-up were Alan Butler’s team.

Nearest the pin on the second hole was Kev Chapman and on the sixth hole it was Micky Hart, whilst nearest the white line was Sue Blake.

The longest drive came from Glen Witherford and nearest the pin on the second shot was Ian Bullingham on the 18th hole.

The honour of being best player on the day went to Sam Chapman who registered nine pars and two birdies off a handicap of ten.

The final fund-raising total could climb as high as £14,000 once all monies are received from sponsors.
